Film: Pumzi is a Kenyan science fiction short film written and directed by Wanuri Kahiu. It was screened at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival as part of its New African Cinema program.

Pumzi, imagines a dystopian future 35 years after water wars have torn the world apart. East African survivors of the ecological devastation remain locked away in contained communities, but a young woman in possession of a germinating seed struggles against the governing council to bring the plant to Earth’s ruined surface.

Music Muse Monday: 7 Aurelius and Nicole Wray 7 Aurelius and Nicole Wray released an EP of “lost tracks” called Dream Factory Sessions on 11/11/11. This EP is a facile fusion of Hip Hop, Soul and R&B. It is rich with quality musicianship. Each track is nothing short of a masterpiece. 7 Aurelius is an extreme talent, that consistently produces hit records! He has worked with some of the greatest commercial talent such as Mary J. Blige, Mariah Cary, and Alicia Keys, but is most widely recognized for his work with Murder Inc. Singer/Songwriter Nicole Wray gained notoriety for her work with Missy Elliot and Timbaland. Her vocal performance on Dream Factory Sessions is loaded with urban grit, and delivers cathartic blows to my heart, and my guts. My favorite tracks off this EP are “Can’t Get Out of the Game”, “Lost” and “Miserable People”.

Snippets From My Diary
“I’ve always wondered what kind of woman I am. I can never really see a clear image of myself in the world or other people. Now, I’d like to think I have a different understanding and I know the type of woman I am definitely not.
I am not the sorority sister, pearl wearing, banquet attending, church going, homemaker, that aspires to be married with children.
I am a free radical, theosophical thinker, activist, skeptic, intellectual, malcontent, Black gypsy, spirit calling, aura reading, poet, passionate in love, and well versed in the beauty of living life”.
